Call for proposal dance Bains Numériques : dead line - 2010 january 8th

For the 5th edition of the Bains numériques digital arts international festival (11-19 June 2010), the centre des arts isorganising an international competition for creations mixing “dance” and “new technologies”. This international call for project proposals is the first step of the competition and aims at pre-selecting hybrid stage forms, in the process of being created. After examination of the application forms, artistic committees will select eight international projects, including one created on the African continent. These selected pieces will be presented in a “condensed” form at the Bains numériques#5 festival from 17 to 19 June 2010. The selected teams of artists will be auditioned by a jury, in public, over those three days. For the 5th edition of the Bains numériques international digital arts festival (12-19 June 2010), the centre des arts is organising aninternational competition for creative works that mix “visual arts” with “new technologies”. This international call for projects is thefirst step of the competition and aims at pre-selecting five visual art projects that are either in progress or recently completed. Eachproposal will in some way or another consider the notion of public space, the diversity of its landscapes and land use, its ebb and flow andthe constraints upon it. The successful installations will be showcased around Enghien-les-Bains as part of a public open-air exhibition.After the applications have been examined, an arts committee will select five international projects. The chosen pieces will bepresented around the city for the duration of the festival. The teams of artists selected will be auditioned by a jury, in public, onWednesday 16 June 2010. Interactive Dance-Tech Performance this Friday!

This Friday, December 11 at 6pm PST"Fragment 3" is the third fragment in a process-based series that choreographer Ashley Ferro-Murray has been working on since Fall 2008.Exploring the space between digital spectrality and digital saturation, this piece moves through various networks as it leads an audience through various iterations of digital choreographies. Wireless accelerometers used throughout the choreographic process inspire the conceptual context of this piece. These sensors are deleted are not worn in performance to explore the body in movement as it exhibits a digital tone in the absence of digital technology. In contrast to the spectral presence of the sensors, the performance space itself is saturated with digital interface. A live video feed of the real-time performance will be input into French digital installation artist Maurice Benayoun’s online network for artistic collaboration, The Art Collider (TAC). Simultaneously, Ferro-Murray projects real-time images from other artists using TAC.In association with BCNM (Berkeley Center for New Media).To participate:Please find instructions for easy ways to connect to TAC via the Connect and Participate site. I would recommend "Live Camera" if you want to input live video, or "Flowmixer" to input prerecorded and/or mixed material. Then, you can simultaneously connect to other footage from the system by opening up links from other live projects. TAC is a fairly new project that is still in the final development stages, but the system seems to be working quite well. I will project a sampling of any material in the network throughout my performance.Also, if you are in the area this event is free and open to the public. Incident (Art et Technologies), Netart Online Platform (Paris), Trias Culture (Cultural Company, Dakar), doual'art (Contemporary Art Center, Douala) and MCD (Musiques & Cultures Digitales - Paris) magazine initiate together a Paper and a Web-based Publication Project called « Digitale Afrique », which aims to realize an inventory and a Cartography of Digital Creation on the African Continent.Digitale Afrique missions are to strengthen networks in the field of Digital Creation on the entire African Continent, to inventory resources and actors like artists, technicians, researchers, structures of education, production, distribution and fundraising, networks and tools that support African Digital Creation in all its forms, from Open Source code to Artworks.Digitale Afrique answers to an increasing interregional and international demand of identification of Digital Arts Professionals in Africa. The initiatives about Digital Creation exist but they are isolated, not interconnected. The visibility in this field is insufficient, internationally and locally.Main cultural manifestations already included Digital Art, such as Dak'Art Contemporary African Art Biennale in Dakar since 2002. Time has come to make information circulate, to interconnect people and to proceed to a first state of Digital Creation on the African Continent.This inventory will be realized by Incident (Art et Technologies) in coordination with Trias Culture and doual'art and with the help of relays based in several cities identified as the most actives in this field in different regions of Africa(such as the Digital Arts Division of the Wits School of Arts in Johannesburg (South Africa). The Digitals Arts Network, or RAN in French, offers a unique platform for the convergence of art, science and industry, removing the barriers between these sectors and opening up a unique space for creation and innovation. The RAN seeks to develop a collaborative approach aimed at fostering exchange, reflection and co-production between artistic, scientific and industrial structures. This network of virtual environments is based on the conceptual and practical activities that the TMA has been pursuing for many years and will be supported by the European Union through the year 2010. The project aims at creating publicly accessible virtual sites of sound and vision. By providing a virtual environment these spaces allow sensory-physical interactions over long distances in realtime. The visitors’ physical activities are linked and embedded in a trans-local virtual environment. Thus, so-called hyper-sites emerge which integrate various locally significant visual and sound processes via the internet. The concept of Tele-Plateaus intends to encourage interdisciplinary and intercultural ways of thinking and working as well as new forms of cross-border communication and co-operation. Tele-Plateaus is an international initiative planned to run through 2010 with an aim to create publicly accessible networked audiovisual sites. The main objective is to make possible and support real-time sensory-physical interactions of people over long distances. Therefore, we work to establish a permanent network allowing for direct audiovisual real-time interactions between similarly configured public sites and performance stages across Europe. Tele-Plateaus is composed, controlled and structured by movements of people from different cities. Within these networked stages and sites people from Dresden, Madrid, Norrköping, and Prague (among the first connected cities) can dance and play together. They can simultaneously create pictures, sounds, and light effects by means of their own movements without operating any additional interfaces. The shared virtual hyper-site is based on the generation of data that is available for processing to all computers within a common network. Movement parameters (speed, spatial position, etc.) are captured and digitalised by camera-based motion system and exchanged between computers at distant locations with a technically similar configuration. At concrete sites the numerically coded movement parameters are creatively transformed into audiovisual outputs and processes. Tele-Plateaus ultimately provides accessible environments for live telematic artistic performances and other collaborative activities. The project is co-financed by Culture 2007 Programme of the European Union for the period 2008-2010.
