We are seeking three dancers to take part in our project, Aeolia, in the centre of Nottingham.

We are exploring the design process of textile sensors on the body and have been working with cellist Peter Gergson and sound engineer Yann Seznec, showing at the MIT Media Lab, InSpace (Edinburgh) and the House of Lords (London) - yes, we were surprised too...

The next stage of the project is to introduce movement and we invite you to come and respond to Peter's music while wearing the woven, embroidered and knitted garments which house stretch sensors - we will use your feedback to inform what the garments eventually do, and to assess placement of the textile sensors.

There is a confirmed exhibition for the video documentation of this in June in Dundee, Scotland, with all participants credited fully, and we will cover your expenses.

Please email Sarah at sarah.kettley@ntu.ac.uk.

The definition of VJing is performance which consists in creating moving visual art (often video) on large displays or screens, often at events such as concerts, nightclubs and music festivals, and usually in conjunction with other performance art. This results in a live, multimedia performance that can include music, actors or dancers as well as live and prerecorded video. Also sometimes called «Realtime» or «Realtime Video».

Given Time - Second Life avatars

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deub5AMgblk&feature=digest implicitart — April 22, 2010 — Given Time simultaneously activates and performs two permanently logged-in Second Life avatars, each forever and only seen by and through the other. They hover in mid-air, almost completely still, gazing into one anothers interface. Viewers encounter this networked partnership as a diptych of large-scale and facing video projections in a real world gallery, both exhibiting a live view of one avatar, as perceived by the other. To create a visceral aesthetic, these custom-designed and life-sized "bodies" are hand-drawn in subtly animated charcoal, graphite and pastel. The audience is invited to physically walk between them; they're able to hear and see them breathing, witness their hair blowing in the wind, pick up faint sounds such as rushing water or birds crying out from the surrounding simulated environment. Here, an intimate exchange between dual, virtual bodies is transformed into a public meditation on human relationships, bodily mortality, and times inevitable flow.

implicitart — April 22, 2010 — Short documentation of 14 works by Nathaniel Stern and Jessica Meuninck-Ganger, for the Passing Between exhibition at Gallery AOP Johannesburg. Shot and edited in late 2009 by Sean Kafer, with musical score by Michael Szpakowski.

Jessica Meuninck-Ganger and Nathaniel Stern approach both old and new media as form. In their Distill Life works, the artists permanently mount translucent prints and drawings directly on top of video screens, creating moving images on paper. They incorporate technologies and aesthetics from traditional printmaking - including woodblock, silk screen, etching, lithography, photogravure etc with the technologies and aesthetics of contemporary digital, video and networked art, to explore images as multidimensional.

Meuninck-Ganger and Stern hack and tweak, shoot and print, appropriate and remix, edit and draw. Their juxtaposition of anachronistic and disparate methods, materials and content - print and video, paper and electronics, real and virtual - enables novel approaches to understanding each. The artists engage with subject matter ranging from historical portraiture to current events, from hyperreal landscapes to socially awkward moments. The works are surprising, wistful, enchanting, and seriously playful.

Episode #103: Beryl Korot describes the impetus behind the innovative 1970s publication "Radical Software," elucidating the history of video in art and the impact of mass media on society. Emerging from an independent video community that included media visionaries such as Marshall McLuhan and groups such as Televisionaries, Videofreex, People's Video Theater, and Global Village, the first issue of "Radical Software" debuted in Spring of 1970 as a publication by the Raindance Corporation. Beryl Korot and Phyllis Segura (Gershuny) acted as Editors, while Michael Shamburg served as Publisher with Ira Schneider as co-Originator. Early contributors included Nam June Paik, Buckminster Fuller, Ant Farm, Frank Gillette, and Paul Ryan, among others. After eleven issues, "Radical Software" ceased publication in the Spring of 1974 and is now an invaluable time capsule of an era.

An early video-art pioneer and an internationally exhibited artist, Beryl Korots multiple-channel (and multiple-monitor) video installation works explored the relationship between programming tools as diverse as the technology of the loom and multiple-channel video. For most of the 1980s, Korot concentrated on a series of paintings that were based on a language she created that was an analogue to the Latin alphabet. Drawing on her earlier interest in weaving and video as related technologies, she made most of these paintings on hand-woven and traditional linen canvas. More recently, she has collaborated with her husband, the composer Steve Reich, on "Three Tales," a documentary digital video opera in three acts that explores the way technology creates and frames our experience.

Drawing on "9 Evenings of Theatre and Engineering" as historical prototype for interactive art humbling current soft exhibitions such as "Decode" (V&A, London),Birringer discusses the emergent field of digital performance and demonstrates various techniques and concepts of visual, scored or improvisational interactive performance. He will share his experience and knowledge of working in different cultural and collaborative professional settings as well as research contexts. Witnessing shifts toward open source and open system design, and referring to international stage works, choreographic systems, installations and site-specific performances, the function of interactivity is examined under a critical light. This audiovisual seminar was commissioned as part of FOOD 4 THOUGHT by The School of Arts and New Media, University of Hull @ Scarborough.

Using the most advanced social software platforms and rich multimedia
internet applications, dance-tech.net provides movement and new media
artists, theorist, thinkers and technologists an on-line space for
accessing and sharing ideas, work, research and collaborative projects.

Barrios Solano introduces dance-tech.net and dance-techTV as a
sustainable model of production and exchange of knowledge within a
community of movement and mew media artits, theorists, technologists and
organizations. The new internet or Web 2.0 architectures helps us to
see Networks as the materialization of social dynamics, as sites of
action, translocal presence and social innovation and sampling. They
have become the most important emergent repositories of social and
cognitive capital of a given community. dance-tech.net registers
conversations, dialogues, performances, ideas and lives using the WWW as
a site for a relational intervention on the boundaries of bodies,
countries, disciplines and organizations.
